wo friends share the very different routines behind their curls—and the advice they think everyone with curly hair should hear.
For one of them, curls require a little hands-on encouragement.
“My curly hair routine is just, like, going into the shower,” she tells Curly Lifestyles. After shampooing, she works conditioner through her hair and, once she’s out, scrunches her curls into place.
Her friend’s approach is decidedly more hands-off.
“Mine’s a little bit simpler,” she says. She shampoos, conditions and rinses in the shower. Then she leaves the rest alone. “I just let it air-dry out, and then it just leaves the natural waves.”
Different textures, different routines. Their advice, though, lands in almost exactly the same place.
“Don’t think about what others may, like, think about it,” one says when asked for the one piece of curl advice she swears by.
Her friend immediately agrees.
“I just hope that everyone with curly hair will always wear out their hair,” she says. “Don’t try to let anyone tell you that it’s not beautiful, or that you should do something else with it.”
Then, one final reminder:
“Your hair is beautiful, and you deserve to wear it out the way you want to. So have fun with it.”
